Madalena do Mar is our main paragliding location in Madeira. Located on the southwest coast of the island, this small coastal village offers a spectacular combination of ocean, mountains, cliffs and banana plantations.
Our meeting and landing area is located by the ocean, while the take-off area is approximately 475 metres above sea level in Canhas. From there, the flight offers a unique perspective over Madalena do Mar and the Atlantic coastline.
Madalena do Mar belongs to the municipality of Ponta do Sol, an area on the southwest coast known for generally enjoying many hours of sunshine throughout the year.
Why We Fly in Madalena do Mar
Madalena do Mar is our preferred flying location in Madeira, but we are not limited to this site. Its coastal setting, altitude and surrounding landscape can provide excellent conditions for tandem paragliding.
However, paragliding is always weather-dependent. We select the flying location according to the conditions of the day, with safety and the quality of the flight as our priorities. When conditions in Madalena do Mar are not suitable, we may choose another flying location in Madeira.
The Take-Off
Our take-off area is located in Canhas, approximately 475 metres above sea level. After meeting the passengers at the landing area in Madalena do Mar, we organize the journey to the take-off site.
Once at take-off, the pilots assess the conditions, prepare the equipment and organize the flight order. We only take off when the conditions are considered suitable for the flight.
The Flight
After take-off, you can simply sit back and enjoy Madeira from a completely different perspective. The flight takes place above the mountains and coastal landscape of Madalena do Mar, with panoramic views over the Atlantic Ocean and the southwest coast of Madeira.

After flying hundreds of metres above the coastline, you return to the same village and land just a few steps from the ocean.

There are parking areas within walking distance of the meeting point, as well as restaurants, cafés and public facilities along the seafront.

Paragliding is completely dependent on weather and wind conditions. For this reason, the final flying location and time cannot be guaranteed in advance.
We analyse the conditions and confirm the meeting point and suggested time the day before the flight. Although Madalena do Mar is our main flying location, we may choose another site in Madeira when conditions are more suitable elsewhere.
The final decision to fly is always based on the actual conditions at the flying site. Safety comes first.
